Hampton

Hampton is a residential neighbourhood on the north bank of the River Thames in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, England. It was historically part of the County of Middlesex. This town features the Hampton Court Palace. Two railway stations serve Hampton, located just south of Hampton Court Bridge in East Molesey.

Bushy Park borders Hampton on two sides, while the towns of Hampton Wick and Kingston upon Thames are also located west of Hampton. Hampton is home to vast stretches of public riverfront and the Hampton Heated Open Air Pool, one of the few such swimming pools in Greater London.

To get to Molesey’s main park and the Thames Path National Trail, Hampton Ferry offers a crossing of the Thames. In the southwest corner of the town, along the river Thames, the Thames Water Hampton Water Treatment Works serves a significant area of the town. One-third of London’s daily drinking water supply (about 650 Ml/d) is produced at the facility, which is among Europe’s largest capacity water treatment plants.

Terraced houses are the most prevalent housing style in the district’s northern reaches, while semi-detached houses are the most common type in its southern reaches.
