Wood flooring adds elegance to your home. But, which type of wood flooring would suit your home? In this brief guide, we talk about types of wood flooring available.

What Is Laminate Flooring?

Laminate wood flooring is made with fibreboard plank, and sealed with a photographic image of wood. And, there is a protective overlay. This option is suitable for high traffic areas that need to be cleaned often. You could use laminate wood flooring in the playroom, living room or study.

What Is Engineered Wood Flooring?

Engineered wood flooring is made with three to four layers of wood, fitted (glued) together to make a plank. The planks are covered in real-wood veneer of approximately 4milimeters of thickness. And, this means the flooring can be sanded and treated to get the original finish if they sustain damage. Engineered wood flooring is suitable for bedrooms, dining areas and kitchens. However, it is advisable to avoid using this option for stairs. Laying the flooring on small areas can be time consuming.

What Is Solid Wood Flooring?

Solid wood boards are made of single pieces of wood (18 to 22 millimeters thick). This type of flooring is fitted together using the tongue-and-groove technique. The wood comes with a hardness score, which indicates the durability and stability of the flooring. The advantage of solid wood flooring is that it can be sanded and restored a number of times depending on how deep the tongues are fitted from the top board.  This option is ideal for hallways and living spaces.

What Is Reclaimed Wood Flooring?

This type of wood flooring is reclaimed from an older property, and then salvaged to be recycled. You could use perfectly preserved original wood flooring from an older property, or buy vintage planks. These can be used anywhere. But, avoid using reclaimed wood for bathrooms as the moisture can damage the timber.

What Type of Wood Flooring Should I Use?

This depends on the type of property you own, the general climate, and your budget. If you are planning to refurbish your flooring, feel free to contact us for a consultation.
